Project Update | Maccabi WA Jewish Community Centre
Education, connection, pride and history. Community Centres provide a vital tapestry for discussion, inclusivity and the strengthening of social fabrics, and none more so than Maccabi WA's Jewish Community Centre (JHUB WA), currently under construction in Yokine, Western Australia.
The project includes a 350m² Holocaust Education Centre, Function Centre, Youth Centre, Lecture Theatre, Child Care Facility and administrative offices for various community organisations.
Designed by Carabiner, the new centre replaces the existing Community Centre built in the mid 70’s - which at over 40 years old, no longer served the needs of the community.
The site integrates with adjacent Jewish Community sporting, school, and aged care facilities as well as sitting comfortably in a mainly residential streetscape.
The overall design has been creatively developed to deliver maximum flexibility for multiple user groups, and has overcome the challenge of escalating building costs experienced within the industry over the last 12-18 months, through an insightful redesign of the initial concept.
“Through an excellent understanding of our project’s needs Carabiner was able to completely rework our initial pre-Covid design, whilst at the same time improving the design functionality of the building and delivering a design that delivers on our vision.” — Jonathon Silbert, Project Manager / Project Director for Maccabi WA.
The project is anticipated for completion by April 2024, and Carabiner anticipate adoption of the new centre will be a vibrant and meaningful addition to the Jewish community.
