Glenorchy Aquatic Centre unveil
Carabiner are proud to unveil a major milestone in the redevelopment of the much loved Glenorchy War Memorial Pool, Tasmania (in collaboration with MI Global and LIMINAL Architecture).
Featured in the Mercury and Pulse News Tasmania, concepts for the $84M redevelopment were revealed during recent stakeholder workshops, and have received positive feedback from the community.
Site context has been thoroughly considered and incorporated within the design, with a strong connection to the adjacent Humphreys Rivulet. This is a reminder of the Country continuum that exists, connecting kunanyi / Mt Wellington to timtumili minanya / River Derwent through waterways that flow from the Mountain to the River. The building’s low lying form frames the surrounding vista, and it is shaped to retain important views of the mountain landscape.
Activities located within the development will expand services that encourage social engagement, wellbeing, fitness, competitions, play, pool leisure while also providing a place to meet. The new Glenorchy War Memorial Pool will be shaped by the local community and its unique natural environment. The local community will feel it’s their place - where they belong.
“The consultants we engaged have been working with community stakeholders for the past 10 months to bring council an option that both reflects the community’s preferences and has the strongest business case to attract funding.” - Mayor Sue Hickey
